In Norway, Fjords have been part of the countries heritage, and daily life, for outsiders, these awesome natural wonders are an awe inspiring spectacle. In fact, the first thing that comes to mind when we think of Norway, is probably Fjords... And Norway has a lot of them, some more famous than others, most offering spectacular scenery of the age old kingdom's natural scenery and a glimpse of it's life.

The hardangerfjord, the Sognefjord, the Nærøyfjord, the Geirangerfjord, the Aurlandsfjord, and others, might have hard to pronounce names, nonetheless are flanked by high rise cliffs, and picturesque valleys, with some very beautiful scenery. these can be witnessed from a cruise ship and many chose that more comfortable experience. but for those seeking a more personal experience, nothing beats hiking.

One very special spot offering a very unique experience and spectacular view is Pulpit rock, or Preikestolen on the Lysefjord. This high rise cliff towers above the waters at 1,982 ft, and has an almost square flat top, about 82 feet square. Sometimes this get jam packed with fjord watchers in such a way that makes you wonder if it till collapse at any time.

It attracts over 200 thousand visitors per year. And get this, the authorities, in order to preserve the natural beauty of the site have opted not to build hand railing or fencing, which makes the experience very authentically hair raising. Accidents are very rare though, and most of the recorded fatalities over the years were due to suicides, which gives the site an extra spooky vibe.

From up top the view is beautiful and worth the trip.
