The last big enough land mass on earth to be settled by humans, New Zealand is a land of pristine diverse natural beauty, scenic beaches, pastures roamed freely by sheep. It was a picturesque backdrop for the Lord Of The Ring and The Hobbit movies. It is a land of extreme sports, the birthplace of gorge jet-boating, and bungy jumping.
Auckland is a modern cosmopolitan city, home to roughly a third of New Zealand's entire population. Auckland Art Gallery often hosts international travelling art displays. Auckland Domain is an old part with many events taking place on weekends. Public transportation is not as efficient and affordable as it i the case with large cities. South of Auckland close to the city of Hamilton is the sheep farm where Hobbiton, the shire, is located, tours are offered but don't hold your breath if you expect to go in the holes.
Christchurch is home to fine neo-gothic older buildings. It is often called the garden city, due to the greenery spread around. Christchurch is the festival capital in new Zealand with the busiest program of any city. It is also a major point of departure for travelers to Antarctica.
Wellington is the second largest city, and the country's capital, and offers a blend of culture, heritage, fine food, and lively arts and entertainment and more. Mt Victoria Lookout offers a panoramic view of the city and its harbor. The botanic garden is nice for a walk.
Many other spots showcase the beautiful natural scenery of the country. The beautiful fjord at Milford Sound, Aoraki Mount Cook National Park with New Zealand's highest mountain, and more. Depending on what you like, the country has a multitude of national parks for every taste.
